The most-recent match might have gone the wrong way, but Manchester City fans can console themselves by owning a limited-edition scarf which celebrates their earlier triumphs over rivals Manchester United.
Manchester United defeated Manchester City yesterday in the derby, after the Reds scored two late goals, to win 2-1.
Commemorating past derby matches, Japan’s biggest brewer Asahi has teamed up with Manchester City legends Steph Houghton and Joleon Lescott, alongside football analyst Opta, to unveil a series of limited-edition Derby Day scarves.
The scarves have been inspired by two of the most iconic recent Manchester derby clashes – in the eyes of City fans, at least.
These are Manchester United 1 – 6 Manchester City in the 2011 Premier League and Manchester City 3 – 0 Manchester United in the 2021 Women’s Super League.

Lescott and Houghton featured in the fixtures that inspired the scarves.
The limited-edition Derby Day scarves were exclusively available at Asahi Super Dry’s The Cityzens’ Arms, during yesterday’s game.
Taking over The Waldorf on Gore Street, The Cityzens’ Arms has been designed to celebrate the taste of Asahi Super Dry and the heritage of Manchester City Football Club – serving Asahi Super Dry and Asahi Super Dry 0.0% to all fans on Derby Day.
Houghton, former Captain of Manchester City Women said: “Some of my favourite football memories came from playing in the Derby, and it’s great to see Asahi Super Dry bringing these to life and recognising that famous win we had over United back in 2021. I’m hoping for a similar result in the next one!”
Last year, Asahi Super Dry created the ‘ultimate fanzone’ ahead of the upcoming 2023 Rugby World Cup taking place in France over September and October.
In 2022, Asahi announced a multi-year partnership with sporting powerhouse City Football Group which will saw its flagship ‘Super Dry’ brand become the ‘official beer partner’ of four of the group’s clubs.
