Building Society Nationwide has thanked its customers in a new campaign starring broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald.
The spot, titled ‘The Big Nationwide Thank You’, features Sir McDonald announcing that the building society is set to thank its customers with a £50 share of a £600 million pot.
Devised by creative PR agency The Romans and directed by Mak Mahmut Akay, the film shows the news reader being joined by a series of ‘Nationwide Correspondents’ who thank the bank for its gesture.
Richard Warren, director of brand, marketing and corporate affairs at Nationwide said: “Nationwide would be nothing without its members and we wanted to do something that gave back to them in a way that truly shows our appreciation. ‘The Big Nationwide Thank You’, starring the one and only Sir Trevor and supported by many of our esteemed colleagues across the country, does just that.”

“We hope this new film, created and executed by The Romans, shows just how grateful we are for our members’ unwavering support, ultimately enabling us to purchase Virgin Money and continue to grow the benefits of being part of a mutual,” he added.
The pot is thought to be the largest gesture by value from a UK organisation.
Dan Roberts, creative director at The Romans, added: “It’s not every day a Black Country lad gets to throw out a ‘Cheers Cocker’ and celebrate the wonderful quirks of UK dialect, but that’s exactly what makes this campaign special. Nationwide has always proven that a ‘serious’ industry doesn’t mean serious advertising.”
