M&M’s has unveiled its latest marketing activation with new spokesperson Maya Rudolph a week after the chocolate brand announced it was changing its name to ‘Ma&Ya’s’ in honour of the comedian and actress’ sponsorship.

The new brand ambassador has now announced that the chocolate treats will be filled with clams and called ‘Ma&Ya’s candy coated clam bites’.

“First I put my face on them. Then I changed the name. Then I thought: ‘What does the world really want?’ Clams,” Rudolph said in the 15-second spot.

“That’s why Ma&Ya’s will now be filled with chewy chunky clams. They’re clam-derful.”

The launch of the marketing stunt comes a week after M&M’s announced that it had paused its ‘spokecandies’ branding and replaced them with the US comedian.

The move from the chocolate brand came after a rebrand of the cartoon versions of the M&M’s caused backlash across the globe.

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson dubbed the rebrand as “Woke M&M’s” and criticised the brand for making the cartoon characters “less sexy”.

“M&M’s will not be satisfied until every last cartoon character is deeply unappealing and totally androgynous. Until the moment you wouldn’t want to have a drink with any one of them. That’s the goal,” Mr Carlson said last year.

Many Twitter users have received the change in spokesperson negatively, calling for the ‘spokescandies’ to make a return to the brand.

As someone who is allergic to clams, and other shell fish, I hope your company puts a warning on the package.

We want our regular m&Ms back along with the old cartoon characters. They were fine the way they were. This change is plain crazy and ridiculous. Honestly, it makes me sick.

I certainly hope this is a joke. I hate fish and the thought of it being produced in the same factory as the regular M & M’s, makes me really consider, not buying M & M’s ever again. Why don’t companies leave a really great, and very old standing candy, alone.
