IPA makes three senior appointments

Trade body the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) has made three new appointments to its senior leadership team.

The organisation has named Jason Cobbold, CEO of BMB, as the chair of the IPA Commercial Leadership Group. The body has also appointed Nick Maddison, managing partner at the7stars, and Genna Trentham, client managing director at Wavemake, UK as co-chairs of the IPA Client Relationship Group.

As part of his role as chair, Cobbold will host the IPA Business Growth Conference and host a new podcast ‘The Money and the Magic,’ which is expected to launch later this quarter.

Cobbold joined the agency BMB as CEO in 2018 and has won contracts for brands such as Samsung, Nike, Farrow and Ball, Innocent and Allianz. He is also the current chair of GB Snowsports, overseeing the governance of over 10 Winter Olympic and Paralympic sports in Great Britain.

He has also held positions at  agencies BMP DDB, TBWA, Publicis, and BBH.

“How to grow is the eternal question for any business in any industry. That question is particularly timely for agency businesses which face a unique mix of challenges, from disruptive tech and the need for new skillsets to changing business models” said Cobbold.

“I’m delighted to work with colleagues from the industry to help understand and navigate these and seek out the opportunities for collective growth.”

Trentham and Maddison will support account handlers in “building mutually beneficial partnerships with their clients”.

Maddison has been in the media industry for over 30 years and has worked with clients such as Carling, Marlboro and British Rail. He joined the7stars, where he currently oversees client relations, in 2010.

Trentham has worked across the entertainment, finance, fast-moving consumer goods, luxury and travel sectors.  She has lead diversity and inclusion groups, helping those who have taken long career breaks get back into work.

IPA director of Agency Value, Joyce Kelso said: “We are in the midst of challenging times for the advertising industry and the wider economy, so it is vital that the IPA continue to provide agencies with all of the tools to drive mutually beneficial value and growth for clients and their own businesses.

“As the Chairs of the IPA Commercial Leadership and Client Relationship Groups, Jason, Nick and Genna will play an invaluable role in helping us to do exactly that, while boosting the value of the wider industry in the process.
