Lionel Messi has starred in Lay’s latest iteration of its ‘No Lay’s, No Game’ campaign, celebrating the buzz surrounding the UEFA Champions League tournament.

In the ‘Messi Visits’ film, the seven-time Ballon d’Or award winner shows up unannounced at a UEFA Champions League party. However, when the recent World Cup winner realises that there are no Lay’s chips in the house, he makes a quick exit to search for his ‘favourite salty snack’, much to the dismay of the homeowner.

The launch of the spot comes days after Thierry Henry starred in a similar ad for the PepsiCo-owned company. In the ‘Thierry Visits’ spot, the footballing legend visited the homes of unsuspecting Barça fans to ask if they were prepared for the Arsenal and FC Barcelona game with plenty of Lay’s chips.

As part of the ‘Messi Visits’ commercial release, limited-edition bags featuring several footballing legends will be made available in the US, South Africa, Poland, and other nations throughout the entire UEFA Champions League tournament through June 2023.

“If you are well prepared, you have more chances to play your best,” Lionel Messi said. “The same goes for all fans who love watching football, gathering their friends and sharing Lay’s. This is what the new Lay’s commercial is conveying with a little humor. Matchday is never complete without Lay’s! No Lay’s, No Game.”

The launch of the ‘No Lay’s, No Game’ platform marks almost a decade of partnership between the PepsiCo-owned chip brand and the iconic UEFA Champions League tournament.

PepsiCo vice-president of marketing, global food brands, Ciara Dilley, added: “It’s unthinkable to watch football without Lay’s, and it’s unthinkable to leave Messi out of the ‘greatest of all time’ conversation. That’s why Lionel was the perfect partner for the “No Lay’s, No Game” platform and why Lay’s has been teammates with him for many years. He’s an icon of the sport and with Messi’s help, the “No Lay’s, No Game” movement will unite fans over the simple act of sharing Lay’s.”
