Comparethemarket has introduced a wombat to its cast of meerkats in its latest marketing campaign.

Produced by creative agency VCCP Blue, the new ad sees Aleksandr and Sergei pick Carl the wombat up from the airport – Aleksandr’s Australian nephew.

When Carl hands Sergei an ‘awesome gift’ – a poisonous frog – the meerkat is soon captured and detained by border control.

The price comparison website’s spot ends with the tagline: ‘Don’t wombat it, meerkat it’.

“We all have those relatable wombat moments where we don’t get it right, despite our best intentions,” Comparethemarket marketing director Kristin Sonfield told Campaign Live.

“So we wanted to create ‘Don’t wombat it, meerkat it’ to show that’s OK, and that it’s what we do next that’s the main thing. The best way to make up for a bad decision, is to make a good one – to flip the switch and be more meerkat.

“Carl is a very welcome addition to the fold, and we can’t wait to see how his story develops and how long Sergei can put up with him.”

I will have a wombat anytime. Sense of humour lost, bit of fun he was just visiting. Can anyone else do better??? Move on please so the rest of us can enjoy a giggle while it’s still allowed.

    Seriously: Please STOP !
The Meerkats have had their day. The Wombat is painfully unfunny – the radio advert is brain-meltingly poor !

I think this advert is insensitive and mis leading.
My husband fell down a moving escalator in December and his injurys
Were life changing the main one been
His head which now has a skin graft because part of his scalp was took off because the escalalator kept going till someone pressed emergency stop.
This advert is not only making people think it is safe to do things like going the wrong way but children need to be taught how to use them correctly as they are dangerous.

Whose is the voice of Wombat? Sings beautifully and sound like Milton Jones when he speaks.

The wombat has been the only irritating character since the ad’s started. The meerkat adverts have always been well written & voiced, but Carl is as irritating as having someone slurping, whistling, or speaking in a lazy way, not pronouncing words properly.

    Relatable wombat moments?
What? Most Brits wouldnt know what a wombat was if they tripped over it. The campaign might work in Australia but in Britain it seems obtuse to me.

I’d assumed they were phasing out the meerkats due to sanctions on their Russian ancestry
